Meenakshi Amman Temple

2 hr 30 min typical visit Free entry 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM

The complex covers 14 acres and holds a thousand-pillar hall, the Golden Lotus Tank, and sanctums for both Meenakshi and Shiva. The outer gopurams rise to almost 52 metres and are repainted every twelve years.

The nightly ceremony, around 9pm, carries an image of Sundareswarar in procession to Meenakshi's chamber. It is short, unhurried and the best time to be inside.
