Bengaluru is not a monument city and does not pretend to be. What it has is a temperate climate, two large parks in the middle of town, a palace, a serious restaurant and bar scene, and an easy pace by Indian metro standards.
Use it as a two-day city break or as the gateway to Mysuru, Coorg and Hampi. The traffic is the well-known problem — plan by area, use the Metro where it goes, and avoid crossing town between 5 and 9pm.
The old parts worth walking are Basavanagudi and Malleswaram in the south and north, and the cantonment grid around MG Road and Commercial Street.

One of India's busiest airports with wide international connections. It is 35 km from the centre — the Vayu Vajra bus and airport taxis take 60–90 minutes depending on traffic.

KSR Bengaluru City is the main terminus, with fast Vande Bharat services to Mysuru and Chennai and overnight trains to Goa, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Mysuru is three hours on the expressway, Chennai six, Hyderabad nine, Hampi seven.
The Namma Metro purple and green lines cover the centre and are the fastest way to cross town. App cabs and autos are everywhere; autos should use the meter and often will not. Traffic between 5 and 9pm is genuinely bad.

Mild all year — rarely above 35°C or below 15°C. Two monsoons bring rain from June to October, usually in short evening bursts rather than all-day downpours.
Idli, dosa and filter coffee at 1920s-era darshinis, Mangalorean and Andhra meals, and a modern restaurant scene as good as any in the country. Bengaluru also brews more craft beer than anywhere else in India.

Indiranagar, Koramangala and MG Road carry the bars and microbreweries. Last orders are around 1am and enforced.
One of the safer metros, including late at night in the main areas. Traffic is the biggest daily risk, and pavements are inconsistent — watch your footing.
Nandi Hills sunrise means leaving by 4:30am and it is now ticketed and busy on weekends — go on a weekday. Lalbagh's flower show at Republic Day and Independence Day is a big local event and crowds accordingly.
Remove shoes at temples. Kannada is the state language — a namaskara is appreciated even if the reply is in English.
As a two-day city break, yes — parks, a palace, excellent food and the best weather of any Indian metro. As a base it is better still, with Mysuru three hours away and Hampi, Coorg and the Western Ghats within a night's travel.
Leave the city by 4:30am to reach the top for sunrise. Go on a weekday — weekend vehicle entry is capped and the queue starts before dawn.
Bad between 8–11am and 5–9pm, particularly on the Outer Ring Road and towards Whitefield. Use the Metro where it goes and plan each day around one part of the city.
