Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib)

2 hr 30 min typical visit Free entry 12:00 AM – 11:59 PM

The temple sits lower than the surrounding walkway, entered by descending steps, a deliberate architectural statement about humility. It has four doors facing four directions, meaning all people are welcome from all sides.

Walk the parikrama around the tank, join the queue across the causeway to the sanctum, and then eat in the langar hall behind — the free community kitchen that serves around 100,000 meals a day, entirely by volunteer labour.

Don't miss
  • The gilded sanctum at dawn
  • Langar community kitchen
  • Continuous kirtan
  • Night reflection in the sarovar

Head covering is compulsory and provided free. Free shoe deposit and lockers are at the entrance. Eating in the langar is not a tourist activity to be photographed — sit, eat, and offer to help wash up.
